SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Scholarship Programmes
Working with local educational bodies in various areas of operation, Prosafe Production will sponsor students to acquire the knowledge and skills required to work for the company and for the oil and gas industry in general.
The first of these educational academies was introduced to the company’s Brazil operation in January 2007 with the aim of developing a pipeline of talent for the offshore sector. Some 20 students made up the first intake in 2007, rising to 21 the following year. Students in the first year worked on the FPSO Polvo on Arraial do Cabo in the Campos Basin. Ten graduates from the Centro Federal de Technologic do Espírito Santo (CEFETES) technical school also had the opportunity to travel to Singapore to work on the FPSO Cidade de São Mateus.
SOS Villages
Internationally, Prosafe Production continues to support SOS Children’s Villages, an international, non-governmental organisation which seeks to provide abandoned or orphaned children with family-based long-term care. The latest SOS village to receive company support is the SOS Social Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. Cash donations go towards daily operation of this facility and the provision of services such as a family health centre, self-help training centre, child day-care centre and programmes for people with HIV/Aids.
Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS)
Prosafe Production continues to support the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of
Singapore (Minds). It has been providing visual aid sporting equipment since 2004, as well as improving the amenities of one training centre.
Fighting Malaria
Malaria is one of the major public health challenges undermining development in the world’s poorest countries. Prosafe Production distributed mosquito nets to all its African operations personnel in 2008 as part of its commitment to the health, safety and security of employees.
