Prosafe Production converts existing Aframax, Panamax, Suezmax and VLCC tankers to FPSOs and FSOs. The first FSO conversion was carried out in 1985 while the first FPSO was converted in 1994.
Prosafe Production uses its in-house resources for the design (inclusive topsides) and operation of these units. The Engineering department liaises with the Operations department from the bid stage, thereby ensuring that the vessels are designed for operability and that continuous design improvement is safeguarded.
Apart from turret and spread moorings, fluid transfer systems and riser systems, the Company’s Technology Department has developed many utility and fluid handling solutions for use in the FPSO process and utility systems. The company has also developed offloading systems to handle the shuttle tankers that frequent the units.
In early 2009, Prosafe Production completed the world’s first FPSO with drilling capability (FDPSO). Equipped with a modular drilling package, which can be removed and used elsewhere once drilling is complete, this cost-effective floating production solution facilitates maximum efficiency as drilling and production can run in parallel, thus reducing the time to first oil and creating substantial value for the client.
